Betty Sander - Aquatics Director

Betty has over 20 years experience in the health and wellness field. She has been a Senior Director and Physical Operations Director in charge of Aquatics, Fitness and Youth Programming with the YMCA. Betty has been a YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, Aerobic Instructor and Water Fitness Instructor, Certified Personal Trainer and is currently a Certified Pool Operator. Betty holds an MBA in marketing, is a published book author and professional speaker on personal development and self empowerment.
Betty is looking forward to leading the Aquatic Department at Silverlake into the exciting future that includes the OUTDOOR WATER PARK in the summer of 2008. She has a fantastic aquatic staff and will be recruiting many more for the upcoming summer. Sara Krull - Aquatics coordinator

A graduate of the University of Louisville with a Bachelor’s in Physical Education and a Minor in Health Promotions, Sara believes Silverlake is the “PERFECT” match and home for her. Starting as a swimmer and a lifeguard, she grew to appreciate the water and what it could provide for everyone. Swimming has been a passion of hers since childhood. She swam in high school and NKSL, and in college interned 1 year for a Division 1 swim team at the University of Louisville. Sara started teaching swim lessons here at Silverlake in 2001 and went to college where she found a home teaching at a local club. Sara ended her time in Louisville as a Site-Supervisor for SwimAmerica where she ran her own site for swim lessons down in Louisville. Sara made her way back home to Silverlake in May 2007 as the new Aquatics Coordinator. She is really excited about the knowledge she will gain in her knew position. Since joining the Silverlake family she has learned how to run a larger swim lessons site, a larger pool, become an Aquatics Fitness Trainer, and certified as a NASCO Lifeguard.
Amanda Johnson - Swim Instructor

My name is Amanda and I am a certified swim instructor here at Silverlake. I have been working at Silverlake since 2004. I love teaching swimming, but I specialize in teaching Levels 5 through Level 10. I started swimming competitively at the age of 6 for Bluegrass Swim Club. Over the years, I swam for the Cincinnati Marlins, Tri-City YMCA, Kenton County Clippers, Beechwood High School, Beechwood Swim Club, and Fort Mitchell Country Club. My swimming background also includes over 10 years of coaching at the USA, High School, and Summer Club levels. Currently, I am Beechwood High School’s Varsity Swim Coach and a teacher at Beechwood Elementary. I recently completed my Master’s Degree in Education, so as you can see I love to TEACH!!! My favorite thing about my job here at Silverlake is working with children on improving their swimming skills!

Darren Matchison - Swim Instructor

My name is Darren and I am a Certified SwimAmerica Instructor. I swam for 3 years in high school where I had 3 top 10 finishes at the Kentucky State meet. I went to the University of Louisville where I ran tack and graduated with a Masters in Engineering. I am currently coaching the Dixie/Simon Kenton swim team for my second season. "I am really excited about teaching swimming. I am a huge fitness and athletic enthusiast, and I would love to pass that along to my students."
Diane Adams - Swimming Instructor/Lifeguard

My name is Diane and I am a Certified SwimAmerica Instructor and Lifeguard at Silverlake. I have been working here since May of 2005. I left NKY to pursue an education degree at EKU. I swam for Kenton county YMCA for 3 years and Holy Cross for 5 years. I love swimming, and I love teaching the children to learn to swim. I love watching when a child is able to do something for the first time. The expression on their face is the most rewarding part of my job. I will be back summer 2008, look forward to seeing all the swimmers!

Gracie Lynne - Swim Instructor

My name is Gracie and I am a SwimAmerica Swim Instructor. I have been working here at Silverlake since October 2007. I am a sophomore at Highlands High School. I have a great swimming background, swimming for the Northern Kentucky Clippers, Fort Thomas Sharks, and I swim for Highlands High School. My favorite part about teaching/coaching swimming is teaching dives and flip turns.

Hollie Schutte - Water Fitness Instructor

Hollie has over 11 years experience teaching water fitness at many different facilities in the Northern Kentucky and Southern Ohio area. She holds many certifications in and out of the water. They include the Aquatic Exercise Association, Moms in Motion, Silver Sneakers, Silver Splash, YMCA (water fitness and group exercise) and soon YMCA Strength and Conditioning and ZUMBA! Hollie has a special passion for pre and postnatal exercise but thoroughly enjoys teaching anything that comes her way. She is very excited to back on staff here at Silverlake and looks forward to helping people reach their goals.

Jake Myers - Head Lifeguard

Jake has been at Silverlake for 7 years. He has been involved with swimming and since he was 9 years old! Jake swam for Brookwood Swim Club in the NKSL, and for the Northern Kentucky Clippers. He was also on the Varsity team at Scott High School. What does Jake like about his job? "Teaching others a sport that I love!"

Jessica Hahnel - Swim Instructor/Lifeguard

My name is Jessica and I am a Certified SwimAmerica Instructor and Lifeguard. I have been working at Silverlake since June 2007. I am currently a junior at Simon Kenton High School where I am on the swim team. "I love teaching swimming! It's lots of fun interacting with other people and children."

Jill Wainscott - Instructor/Lifeguard

Hi, my name is Jill and I am a certified swim instructor and lifeguard here at Silverlake, and I have been working at Silverlake for 4 years. I started swimming when I was 6 years old for Five Seasons Gators, then I moved to Brookwood Swim and Tennis Club where I swam until I graduated from Scott High School where I also swam 1 year. I really love teaching swim lessons. I love watching my students grow from just blowing bubbles to independently floaters in Level 2, or being able to swim an entire length of freestyle properly in Level 5.

Jacob Worley - Group/Private SwimInstructor

Time at Silverlake: I have been at Silverlake for 3 years this coming August during that time I have been a Lifeguard and Taught swim lessons Educational Background: Graduating from St. Henry District High School this May. Going to Eastern Kentucky University to pursue a degree in Homeland Security and Criminal Justice. Experience: Swam at Triple E swim Club for 10 years and started swimming for St. Henry District High School in the 7th grade and just finished my 6th and final season. I was the Assistant swim coach at Triple E Swim Club the summer of 2006 and the assistant coach for the Florence Hammerheads in 2007. Favorite thing about my Job: sharing something I love to do with others and watching swimmers improve every week.

Karen Poulos - Swim Instructor

My name is Karen and I am a certified swim instructor here at Silverlake. I have been teaching here since 2001 and have taught all levels from beginners to advanced. I swam for the Cincinnati Marlins, Notre Dame Academy, and for the University of Louisville. I am currently coaching for Notre Dame Academy on top of being an Exercise Physiologist and Personal Trainer for St. Elizabeth Hospital. I love teaching swim lessons because I enjoy seeing kids improve every week.

Kathy Carnes - Instructor

My name is Kathy and I have been teaching here at Silverlake for 2 years. I have been teaching swimming for 5+ years. I grew up here in NKY and graduated from Notre Dame Academy. I went on to the University of Louisville for undergrad and finished at the University of Cincinnati Law School. I missed being in the water so I joined my other two sisters here at Silverlake to teach swimming. My favorite thing about working here at Silverlake is being able to work with so many great kids who want to learn how to swim!

Lin Isaacs - Swim Instructor/Water Fitness Instructor

My name is Lin and I am a certifies Swim America Instructor as well as a Certified AEA Water Fitness Instructor at Silverlake. I have been working at Silverlake since opening day! I have been in and around water since I was a child. I was a swimmer, lifeguard, I am now a water aerobics Instructor and swim instructor. On top of that I am an official for KHSAA High school swimming, and I used to coach. Out of all my credentials, my favorite thing about the water is that I enjoy being in it and teaching people water skills and swimming skills. Swimming is an important skill to learn and is a healthy exercise.

Lindsey Frilling - Instructor

My name is Lindsey and I have been teaching swim lessons here at Silverlake for 3 years. I have a Bachelor’s from Western Kentucky and a Master’s from Vanderbilt. I am currently going to Pharmacy School at the University of Cincinnati. When I am not busy studying and hitting the books I love to be around kids and teach. My favorite part about my job is learning. Not only are my students learning from me, but I am learning from them as well. Each child is different so I am able to work with that and teach to each child’s level!!!

Lisa Harkrader - Instructor

My name is Lisa and I have been teaching swim lessons here at Silverlake since 2002!!! I have enjoyed teaching so many different children. My children went through Silverlake’s program and are now swimmers for the Northern Kentucky Clipper’s, where I also am a Age Group Coach. When I am not leading my daughters girl scout troop or coaching over at the Clipper’s I really enjoy teaching my group swim lessons. My favorite thing is I love to see the swimmers improve and achieve their goals. Nothing excites me more than to see a child do something awesome for the first time!

Lisa Hill - Instructor

My name is Lisa and I am a certified SwimAmerica Swim Instructor here at Silverlake. I have been coaching swim lessons for the past 4 years, and I have loved every minute of it. I swam for Cherry Hill Dolphins, Conner High School, and Cincinnati Marlins as a child. I was a Kentucky High School State Runner-up and I hold titles for All Conference, All Region, and All State. I love watching the excitement on the children's faces when they learn / accomplish a new skill in swimming!

Mandie Frilling - Instructor

My name is Mandie and I have been teaching swim lessons at Silverlake since 2001!!! I have a bachelor's from Western Kentucky University and a Master's from Northern Kentucky University. As a child I swam for the Clipper's and Taylor Mill Swim Club. I also was WSI certified and lifeguard certified. I ran the swim lessons at Taylor Mill Swim club for 2 years before joining the Silverlake team. I love teaching swim lesson's, especially to my son who is in Water babies. Seeing students progress and grow is a priceless accomplishment. I love seeing past students here at Silverlake swimming around confidently and knowing that I had something to do with it!

Marilyn Plageman - Instructor

“Marilyn is the reason why we are at Silverlake, she has taken the time to work with both of my children. She is patient, kind, and up for a challenge. There are few people that you can trust your kids with, and she is one. I know that they are getting the best instruction possible and are completely safe when they are swimming with her. With out Marilyn my kids would not be swimming - Teri Landers I have been teaching swimming and aquatic fitness at Silverlake since 2001. With over 20 years of teaching experience with all ages, babies to seniors and 10 years with special needs. The water is your fountain of youth. It is the only sport you can do for life. I can take up to 2 students per 1/2 hour lessons. You can share that lesson with a friend of family member. today.”

Sherry Lentsch - Instructor

My name is Sherry and I have been a swim coach here at Silverlake for 6 years. I am an Age Group Coach for the Northern Kentucky Clippers as well as a Summer Swim Team Coach for Beechwood Swim Club. I swam for Wade YMCA, Clippers, Beechwood Swim Club, and Notre Dame Academy. I have a Degree in Exercise Physiology and a Minor in Health. My favorite thing about my job is to watch the kids mature in their strokes. Also, it is fun to see a child master stroke school and make that jump to the other side of the bulkhead.

Sue Heist - Instructor

My name is Sue and I have been working here at Silverlake for 2 years. I am a Nurse by day, but I love coaching swimming by night. My children swim for the Northern Kentucky Clippers Swim Team and the Beechwood Swim team in the summers. I swam since I was 5 years old at Summit Hills Country Club. Then I joined the Tri City YMCA and became a Barracuda. I swam there until the Kenton County Clippers were formed. I swam in High School for Notre Dame Academy and also at Wade YMCA for 2 years. My favorite thing about coaching is seeing the children master strokes that are hard for most people. The excitement on their face and you can see that they understand exactly what they are doing.

Leigh Ann Myers - Lifeguard/Instructor

Hi, my name is Leigh Ann. I am a lifeguard and certified Swim Instructor here at Silverlake. I swam for Brookwood Swim and Tennis club for 10 years, swam for the Northern Kentucky Clippers for 10 years, and swam for Scott High School from the 6th to the 12th grade. I signed my first year at Western Kentucky University. My favorite thing about my job is that teaching swimming is keeping me involved in the sport, and it gives me the ability pass along my swimming knowledge to my students.

Wendi North - Swim Instructor and Water Fitness Instructor

Wendi started swimming on the swim team at age 5 at the Highland Hill Country Club in Fort Thomas. She swam at the YMCA from age 8 to 14. The breaststroke was her stroke and she came in 4th in State in her final year of swimming. Wendi started teaching water aerobics in college at Northern and 4 Seasons in 1993. She also taught at various outdoor swim clubs in the summer time. In 1999, Wendi moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and worked at All American Fitness as an aerobics instructor until 2002 then she moved back to Northern Ky and started teaching at the RC Durr YMCA. She is certified in lifesaving CPR and is currently working on AEA certification.

Marcie Dressman - Instructor

I have been a water bug my whole life! I started swimming competitively at the age of 4 all the way through high school and college which lead to 20 years of teaching swim lessons and 15 years of water aerobics. I am a gold level SwimAmerica instructor, AEA and HydroRider certified instructor. "I feel swimming is important as learning to read for children, is not only a life long fitness habit but a life saving skill." I am available for private swim lessons for beginners to competitive swimmers. I specialize in stroke work for competitive and tri athlete swimmers.
